RCT: Plant-Based Proteins Inferior To Meat And Animal Products

A recent randomized controlled trial (THE BEST STUDY DESIGN) confirmed what we've been saying all along – not all protein sources are equal.

This study refutes the idea that we can swap equivalent amounts animal proteins for plant proteins. One of the researchers stated that:

“Our research illustrates that animal-based protein foods, such as beef, eggs and pork, and plant-based protein foods, such as kidney beans, peanut butter, tofu and mixed nuts, cannot be considered to be equivalent, or a substitute for each other, when developing healthy dietary patterns. The improvement in whole-body net protein balance was due to an increase in protein synthesis (P < 0.05) with all the animal protein sources, whereas the egg and pork groups also suppressed protein breakdown compared with the plant protein sources (P < 0.01).”
